By 2030, 1 in 6 people in the world will be aged 60 years or over. The share of the population who belong to this age category will increase from 1 billion in 2020 to 1.4 billion in 2030, and by 2050, the size will be doubled to 2.1 billion. Likewise, population ageing is one of the most significant dimensions of global demographic change. Simultaneously, despite significant efforts in society, many old people continue to face discrimination and exclusion. To tackle this type of issue arising from the modern demographic structure, Social work practice with the elderly focuses on adapting new policies and services. In general, Social Work is a helping profession that empowers individuals to help themselves; thus, in this context, Social Work practice with the elderly tries to ensure the inclusion of every elderly person. In Japan, 30% of the population is already over 60 years old, yet, Social work practice with the elderly in Japan is a new opportunity and faces challenges. This table discussion can be used in the development of more responsive services and policies to make our society inclusive of the elderly.

Hello! My name is Priyal Tale. Thank you for your interest in the table topic of social work practice with elderly. The elderly population is the backbone of any civilization. Today, when the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promise to ‘leave no one behind’. It entails that every individual is included in the developmental process. Throughout the conference the table will discuss the problems faced by elderly with respect to social work professionals from Japan and relate it to the countries from all over the world. We will together come up with recommendations for the implementation of small steps in the field of social work practice with elderly in not just our countries but also have a big impact at the international level.
