By JL Teña

On June 15th, Table 2 of ISC65 has held their first study meeting regarding the gender situation of two countries: Syria and South Korea. Let's all hear what they have gained through this meeting from the brief report by Risa of Table 2.

What did your table do during the recent study meeting?

We had a meeting to share what we've done in recent research. Members from two case study groups, Korea case study group and Syria case study group, reported about these region. The reports were about the basic information of the war in these areas and notion of gender. For example what takes to be a man or a woman, what is expected to each gender by the society as gender role, and brief history of the country were reported. As the next step, further research will be reported focusing on the cause of gender role and how and by whom the gender role/expectation/identity were established. Our final goal of the discussion is to formulate the problem which women can face in each region during wartime. Besides, we discussed the possible organization/people to make an interview during our research. This interview is aimed to make our research into depth. It make us enable to understand the situation in each region to understand both from the view of grassroots activities and academic research area.

Do you have any encouraging words for your table-mates as well as your fellow ISC participants?

Main Conference is coming sooooooner than I felt!! We will be on the conference in only two months!! I'm so excited and motivated every time I see people in ISC working on researches in each table!

Thank you Risa! Stay tuned for other updates on ISC65!
