[Humans of ISC67] Participant Edition: Fumie Miura

#1 Please introduce yourself!

Hello! My name is Fumie Miura. I'm from Japan and live in Tokyo. I'm a junior at Soka University, studying Peace Studies and International Relations in the Faculty of Law. My hobby is playing the koto, a traditional Japanese musical instrument. I love having an exciting time by talking to people who have different nationalities and backgrounds and meeting new values!

#2 What is your favorite thing about your country/city? Why?

I was born and raised in Kokubunji City, Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo is the capital of Japan, so speaking of Tokyo, it has a gorgeous and urban image. However, my hometown is a city that is rich in nature and values the connections between people, which is what makes the city so attractive. For example, there is a field in front of my house. When I was a child, I helped harvest the fields and ate freshly harvested tomatoes and cucumbers. Also, at Kindergarten, I used to dig potatoes and pick up chestnuts. There is a forest nearby, so I was good at climbing trees! If you come to my hometown, you will be surprised at the difference from the image of Tokyo, but you will be healed by the rich nature. Please come and visit the city someday!!

#3 What made you want to join ISC67 and your table? What would you like to achieve through the conference?

I decided to join ISC67 because I want to broaden my values and perspectives by engaging with people of different nationalities and backgrounds. Because the COVID-19 pandemic reduced the chances of going abroad and making new encounters, I felt frustrated that my world wasn't expanding. Therefore, I was fascinated by ISC67, which allows me to connect online with highly passionate and willing students from all over the world and have a lot of discussions.

Through the conference, I want to be myself who can respect different values and opinions. I am convinced that the moment when different values are mixed is the opportunity to come up with new creative ideas. However, I usually get timid about something different from myself, so I want to acquire an open mind through this conference!
