Tran Anh Thu from Vietnam was a participant at the 62th International Student Conference. From her own experiences joining the conference, this time, Thu comes back with a new role - the table chief of table 5 "Mental Health Care: Create a healthy lifestyle for young people".
"As a patient, I just needed more support. And I do believe any mental health patient like me will seek for help when eventually they realize, they have to do so. However, it is harder than we think to actually be able to find a place where you can come to, or a person who can just listen without any judgement. "
Q1. Please tell us what are the reasons/motivations that made you apply for ISC65?
It was an honored for me to be selected as an ISC62 member back then in 2016. That was indeed a life-changing experience for me as I got to reflect myself and learn many new things. Now applying for ISC this time, I wanted to contribute more so I decided to apply for the Table Chief position as I believe a true leader is one who is ready to serve.
Q2.What do you think about your table’s topic?
As a patient, I just needed more support. And I do believe any mental health patient like me will seek for help when eventually they realize, they have to do so. However, it is harder than we think to actually be able to find a place where you can come to, or a person who can just listen without any judgement. With the theme of ISC this year“Embrace diversity as Youths of today and Driving forces of tomorrow”, I thought of choosing this topic as it represents not only the diversity of issues that ISC can cover, but also all conditions one human can own the right to have. I wanted to connect people who share the same thoughts and together, we can find a way for others like us to overcome their own situation.
Q3.What do you think about your table’s activities in overall now?
We have not officially met, but I feel thankful already for the chance that we got to be in a same team. As I can see, we are a not so dynamic team. But I do see and sense that this is well-bond team and we will definitely have great time together.
Q4. Can you share hare with us some of your feelings towards the upcoming ISC65?
Super, duper excited. I really am guys.
Q5. Can you tell us a little bit about your hometown?
I was born in Ho Chi Minh city, and it has been 23 years since the first day. What I admire most about HCMC is the way she makes us feel. When you are here, you will hate her sometimes for the busy pace she brings. But when you are away, you just wish to come back and see her as soon as possible. You will miss that peaceful morning she gives and how she touches you gently with her warm, fresh vibe. You will wish to see again the look of her night outfit, glamorous, yet intriguing. All the noises she makes and how they bother you sometimes, now become the most nostalgic sounds to your soul. And yes, I forgot to mention the food. People come and go and have to return just to taste her cuisine. The culinary culture that is unforgettable. She does not give you that love at first sight, but gradually you will wonder yourself: “How did I fall in love you with?”
Thank you for asking me about my hometown so that I can have this chance to share. If you ever come to HCMC, Vietnam, I would be delighted to show you around.
