Q1. Please tell us what are the reasons/motivations that made you apply for ISC65?
I am Hinako Kosugi doing undergrad at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan. I am a third year student majoring international relations. I had studied at University of Minnesota as an exchange student for a year. I am interested in global environmental issue such as climate change and ocean litter. Currently, I also interested in overconsumption, product life cycle and circular economy. I am so happy to be a participant of ISC. I like to do scuba diving when I have couple days off. My hobby is doing workout and watching movie. I thought that it would be a great opportunity to have a discussion with people who have similar interest and share our ideas to make better solution against the topic so that I decided to join it when I heard about this conference from my friend. I believe that the youth have a strong power to move the world toward the better one.
Q2.What do you think about your table’s topic?
Nowadays, the media sometimes pick up ocean litter with a picture with marine animals hurted by plastic waste as an urgent topic to be solved around the world. I got an interested in this topic and I have been wanting to find the solution of this program since I realized that I like nature and ocean. Plastic has a bad effect on not only marine animals but also human that fact is almost proven by the researchers around the world. This issue is discussed from different aspect such as cleaning existing litter at the land, beach and the ocean. In addition to that, to prevent ending up to the ocean, reducing plastic waste and reframe the plastic disposal system by the government and the private companies. The work monitoring these sectors is activated by international NGO these days. Rethinking our daily behavior of consuming is also getting popular right now. It is important to have big frame at the same time we should find the little thing to bring better environment by individual action.
Q3. Can you tell us a little bit about your hometown?
I am from Osaka, Japan where it takes about 1 hour to the center area of Osaka by train.I can go to the center of Osaka and Kyoto with almost same distance. Osaka is famous for Takoyaki and Kyoto has Mattcha sweat. Osaka has Universal Studio Japan, Osaka castle and Doutonbori which is known as eating and shopping spot. Kyoto is also famous for historical building such as temples and shrines. It is cool to learn about Japanese core history by visiting these places. I recommend you to come to Kyoto in fall because you can see the beautiful scenery with leaves turned red and yellow. I did part time job near from famous sightseeing spots so that almost all customers were from abroad. We can communicate with people around the world.
